The African infantry in Indochina

By Damien Francis Bourgery
While the Second World War just ended, the war in Indochina bursts. From a simple conflict between France and the Viet Minh party, it is fast becoming a war of decolonization. To strengthen its workforce, the French army sends sharpshooters African and North African. They are supplemented by on-site recruitment of tens of thousands of Indochinese soldiers. The Indochina war ended in March 1954 with the French defeat at Dien Bien Phu.
