-love kindness ...

Photo by Danielle and Olivier Föllmi

[...] "The near enemy of love, kindness is attachment.
Initially, the attachment may give the impression of being in love, but as it grows it is becoming clearer as its opposite: it is characterized by the desire to cling to control, and by fear.

The near enemy of compassion is pity, which separates them.
He who has pity feels sorry for this poor person out there, as if, one way or another, it was different from him.

The near enemy of joy is the desire to compare: the happiness of others before we try to see if we have less, equal or greater than the other.

The near enemy of equanimity is indifference.
True equanimity is balance within the midst of life situations;
Indifference is a withdrawal, disinterest based on fear. "[...]
